Obituary of Arlene Tracy Hahn

Arlene Tracy Hahn, 91, resident of the Village at Heritage Point, Morgantown, WV, passed away peacefully at home into the loving arms of our Lord on March 31, 2020, surrounded by her husband and son. Arlene was born in New Salem, PA, on December 17, 1928, to the late Marling and Evelyn Tracy. She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur, with whom she celebrated 71 years of marriage last June; their son, Bradley and daughter-in-law, Betsy, of Allentown, PA; grandsons: Timothy Hahn (Virginia) of Lititz, PA, Dennis Hahn (Shea) of Coventry, CT, and Samuel Hahn of Philadelphia, PA; great-grandson, Seth (son of Dennis and Shea); sister, Maxene Zammerilla of Fort Myers, FL; nephew, Larry Hahn (Debbie) of Fort Myers, FL; and niece, Michelle Sileo (Mark) of Maywood, NJ. She was predeceased by son Brian Arthur Hahn and by her parents. After her marriage in June 1948 in a double wedding ceremony along with her twin sister, Maxene, Arlene and her new husband moved to Nazareth, PA; this was followed by a move to upstate New York where her oldest son, Brian, was born. In 1959, Arlene and Arthur moved to Morgantown, WV, shortly after the birth of their son, Bradley, where she has resided ever since as a true Mountaineer. Arlene began a 25-year career as an employee of West Virginia University in 1965. In that year, she was instrumental in the opening of the then-new Towers Dormitory in Evandale where she supervised dozens of resident assistants through the fascinating times of the 1960's and 1970's. Later in her career, Arlene worked in the WVU Student Affairs Office of Student Life, working closely with international students until her retirement in 1990. In 2002, as recognition of her many years of dedicated service to WVU, she received the WVU Student Affairs Hall of Fame Award. Arlene was a popular and extremely loyal friend of many, having developed lifetime friendships with coworkers; neighbors in Evandale, Morningside and at the Village at Heritage Point; and with her notorious "Birthday Girls" club. She was a long-time member of Spruce Street United Methodist Church and held many committee officer positions through the years including being Lay Leader. Organizations where she was deeply involved include the Delphian Book Club, PEO Chapter B of Morgantown, the Ladies Oriental Shrine of Wheeling, WV, and the Morgantown Unit of the Ladies Oriental Shrine where she was a past president. During her retirement years, Arlene was thrilled by the arrival of her 3 grandsons who she adored - then equally loved the young ladies that they eventually married. Arlene and Arthur literally traveled the world, having made multiple trips to Europe and Asia, along with a trans-Canada railroad trip. In her later years, in addition to the wonderful care she received from the wonderful staff at the Village at Heritage Point, Arlene was greatly appreciative of the personal care and friendships of Halee Stewart and the teams at Interim Health, and the hospice care she received from the teams at Amedisys, Inc. The kind and gentle care provided by these individuals were very deeply appreciated and can't be overstated. Arlene was deeply loved by her family and many friends and her loving nature will be greatly missed until we all meet again. In accordance with her wishes, Hastings Funeral Home will be providing cremation services. Due to the current situation with Covid-19, the family will have a celebration of her life at The Village at Heritage Point at a future date. She will be inurned next to her son, Brian, in New Salem, PA.
