Laura L. Straub (nee Sabolo), 101, life-long resident of Morgantown, passed away in her sleep on December 9, 2020. The daughter of Peter and Angela Sabolo, Laura was born August 2, 1919 and grew up in the Seneca neighborhood. She graduated from Morgantown High School and, during World War II, worked at Morgantown Ordinance Works. In September 1945, Laura married Theodore J. "Ted" Straub, upon his return from the war. Laura was a member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church and later St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters of The Americas, Court #594, and of the Serra Club of Morgantown. Actively involved in the lives of her three sons, she served as Cub Scout den mother, and later a volunteer leader of the Willowdale 4-H Club in Morgantown. She was a lifetime member of the West Virginia 4-H All Stars. Laura volunteered at University Hospital and was a lifetime member of Friends of University Hospitals. She was an active member of St. Mary's Church Choir. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, her two sisters, Margaret Valentine and Helen Jo Hindman, two brothers, Robert J. (Bob) Sabolo and Raymond J. Sabolo, and daughter-in-law, Dolly Straub (wife of William M. Straub). She is survived by three sons: John, and wife Karol of Vienna, Virginia; Robert T. (Bob) Straub of Hammonton, New Jersey; and William M. (Bill) Straub of Morgantown, nieces and nephews, two grandsons, Paul Straub and Mark Straub and two great grandchildren. Following a private family viewing, there will be a public Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Roman Catholic, 3334B University Avenue, Star City on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. with Father John McDonough as celebrant which will be live streamed on St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Star City Facebook page. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. Although guests are invited to come visit, it is required, per the Governor and CDC pandemic guidelines, that all visitors wear face masks and practice social distancing.
